GPA - what's that?

Now that we've learned how to set SMART goals, let's learn about the importance of good grades and getting into the college of your choice.

Do you know what GPA stands for? It stands for Grade Point Average. Average, you've heard that term before in math class. Now I know what you're thinking, "When will I ever use Averages in my life?" Well, here we go, a perfect application.

Did you know that each letter grade also has a point value associated with it? It's true! Here's how it looks -

4.000 A
3.667 A-
3.333 B+
3.000 B
2.667 B-
2.333 C+
2.000 C
1.667 C-
1.333 D+
1.000 D
0.667 D-
0.000 F

So, now you're probably thinking, "Wait a minute Ms. G...are you really going to make me do math?" Well, I should, because it's good practice, but for right now, I'm going to make it easy on you (you're welcome!.

Visit this site and use the GPA calculator. What's your GPA right now? How do you feel about your GPA> What SMART goal can you set to maintain or improve your GPA?

Remember excellent grades = more opportunities for scholarships, more options for universities/colleges, and most importantly that you are learning what you need to learn to be prepared for College and Beyond!

What do you want to accomplish this school year? What are your goals for the next 5 years? Why are goals so important? Well, like Yogi Berra said, if you don't have a goal in mind you're basically not going anywhere.

In our class we set SMART goals. What is a SMART goal you ask? Well, visit this site and learn more about SMART goals. Read through this webpage and learn about SMART goals. Tomorrow we will have a class discussion and practice setting our own SMART goals for the next 2 weeks.
